Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

I ❤️ ramen

I ❤️ ramen

“I love ramen” Roxy says right before she suctions a slippery strand of noodles in a quick ’n noisy slurp.

“Please don’t slurp your soup, Roxanne” Mom says as she listens to the answering machine, standing over it so she can rewind.

“It’s not soup it’s ramen,” Roxy retorts, her mom isn’t listening anyway, she only hears and sees when Roxy is doing something I”unpleasant” or irritating or selfish or thoughtless.

“It’s a good thing I like ramen” she thinks to herself “because it’s all Dinah has in the cupboard that strikes Roxy as even somewhat tasty.  Fuck this vegetarian phase her mother was going through, and because she lives with her, Roxy had to too.  I mean if Dinah was going to be a vegetarian at least she could be a good cook, or even cook at all.

She almost looked forward to seeing her dad the couple times a month she did as awkward and un-fun as it was with him and Moose Lips.  But there were plenty of steaks in the freezer that she could make, and the fast food French fries that Moose-lips would crisp up again in the oven  were a nice departure from the fare at home, with her stressed out Vegetarian Feminist mom who thought making a pot of Kraft macaroni and cheese qualified her for Mom of the Year. Pssht What a joke.

“I love ramen” She says with her beautiful, sexy full red lips say right before she smacks them with a pull of slurped up noodles. Laughing as she wipes broth from perfect, perfect lips.  Oh God, I want to be the noodle in her mouth right now.  Sliding down her throat.  Am I staring? Be cool, be normal, remember this is just a fun thing, keep it light, keep it airy, keep it sexy, keep it fun.  I turn on my stool to face her fully, take hold of her chin and lift those perfect perfect lips to mine.  Not even thinking about possibly being caught by a  adventurous and hip suburbanite acquaintance or worse even, friend, or FOR (Friend of Roxy) out on an adventure in the City to try the latest craze Ramen Bar.  Hell, for all he knew Roxy herself could walk through that door.  But he didn’t think about it any more, because he didn’t really care at that moment, anyway.

“I love ramen” Bish says to no one but herself.  She looks down at the small stainless  steel saucepan watching how the fleece of translucent  bubbles on the walls of the pot are slowly releasing onto the surface.  The eggs loll about the liquid.  Bish turns off the gas, and covers the pan.  Looks at her phone and computes when to remove the eggs for their cold plunge. 9 minutes.  Enough time to boil water for the ramen, submerge the noodles, add the sauce and seasonings, and then let sit for 2 minutes.  She is a Ramen Specialist and thinks about title 19 in her Cookbook Series Ramen: 19 Ways.  Continuing with the thrifty eats theme that began with title 16 Leftover Rice: 16 Ways.   But like the old song sings I’ll be back in the high life again… Projecting the title for 20 White Truffles: 20 ways, wouldn’t that be fun?
