It is/It was/It will be
It is smoke clouds, blood moons, unseasonable chill, and family tzuris. It is an overbaked crock of Existentialism with the fluffy lightness of dead weight. It is routine that leads to discipline. It is practice and patience. It is the right word. It is color and flavor, and of course, it’s beauty. It is a great new song that heads off the Languid Summer playlist
It was a 3-day weekend binge of Scenes From a Marriage that culminated in a matinee showing on Broadway of The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window. The through-line: Oscar Isaac; playing a Jewish male interacting with the world. The time and setting are interesting to me and I view Rachel Brosnahan’ s Iris as a kind of alternate-world Midge Maisel. The playwright Lorraine Hansberry died at a shockingly young 34 years old. But at least she lived to see the success of her classic play Raisin in the Sun Not saying it’s worth it, but maybe I am?
As Sidney Brustein, Oscar ranted, raved and flung himself through his scenes with incredible energy. He was able to make a guy with strong shmuck tendencies, appealing and sympathetic. And he was funny, really really funny doing it. Beautiful, radiant, captivating things ensue when the truth about being human is presented through splendid craft work.
As for me, I will make a big pan of Peanut Butter and Strawberry Oat Streusel Craquelure. They will go nicely with the Food Unit we just began in my Level 1 class. It will be a crash course in American Flava.
When you can’t write, teach, and when you can’t teach, bake.
